Anglicare News - Parish Grants

Support social action in churches

Anglicare provides grants to support social action in churches. In line with its Ends Policy, Anglicare encourages churches to be actively involved in mission, to love and serve the Tasmanian community in the name of Christ.

Margaret Savage, Anglicare’s Parish Community Development Worker, recently presented St Mark’s Bellerive and St David’s Cathedral with grants enabling the continuation of two valuable outreach programs.

St Mark’s Bellerive hosts a Breakfast Club at Clarence High School every Thursday morning, providing food and a friendly supportive environment for young people to meet.

The program has allowed the parish to make strong links with the High School and provide a valuable contribution to students’ practical and physical wellbeing.

St David’s Cathedral provides pastoral care and practical assistance to a growing disadvantaged multicultural group within the Cathedral’s care.

This grant provides some financial resources to cover the incidental costs associated with resilience building, practical support and general pastoral care for this community.

Ideas for action

Do you and your church want to be involved in social action but are not sure where to begin? Have you been thinking about a project and need money to get started? If you want ideas of what to do in your community and need a grant then talk with Margaret Savage, Anglicare’s Parish Community Development Worker, on 6213 3656 or email.

*Donations of books and DVDs can be delivered to Margaret Savage at 159 Collins Street, Hobart.
