Great Expectations

Each year when he goes to Summerview conference Bruce Geeves has great expectations and here he asks: ‘Why do I go?'

  1. It gives my Christian faith a kick start at the beginning of the year. It is easy to start the year in fuzziness after a long holiday. It's good to be back with those who are going to help you get back into a godly routine, but discipline and routine are difficult! You are reminded of the disciples as you meet missionaries and others who pray for them.
  2. It reminds me to have a mission focus and give me a bigger picture of the kingdom. Often we can be monastic in our parishes, only relating to those who think and live as we do. We can become comfortable and apathetic, immune to the suffering of other Christians. I heard how persecution and political struggle can produce a strong and vibrant church.
  3. I hear stimulating Bible teaching, and learn more about the message that we have been entrusted with. The studies are challenging and this year made me think about why we should live in hope; and the implications if we don't.
  4. I enjoy the opportunity to get to know people over mealtime discussions, rather than as ‘ships passing in the night'. There are rich conversations as we share what God has done in our lives.

My ‘great expectations' were again met at Summerview 2012. This is a conference not to be missed!
