People with mental illness in Brighton, Lower Midlands and Central Highlands will now have access to much needed support through Anglicare’s new Personal Helpers and Mentors service (PHaMs). Our new PHaMs service has been officially opened in Brighton by the Minister for Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs, Jenny Macklin and Senator for Tasmania, Carol Brown.

The PHaMs team will give local people with mental illness someone they can talk to and get advice from during their recovery. The team can also support people to improve their relationships with family and friends and get involved with their local community.

PHaMs can also connect people to clinical support services and provide some practical help. People don’t need to have a diagnosed mental illness to be eligible.

We are delighted to be able to offer services to people in local communities who would normally have to travel great distances in order to receive some help. Our workers have reported that people being referred to this new service who live in the Lower Midlands, Central Highlands and Brighton areas feel a great sense of relief that they are able to get support from someone close by.

If you would like to know more about the service please call 6213 3671.
