Community opportunities

St Peter’s church at Port Sorell is providing opportunities for its members to include more of the community in the life of the church. Two recent events were a High Tea and a Spring church service.

The High Tea, a beautifully presented afternoon tea, complete with cream cakes and fine china, was attended by nearly 50 people including the Mayor of Latrobe, Mr Michael Gaffney, MLC.

The occasion was held to launch the Amenities Building Fund. The plans are to replace the existing inadequate facilities with an extension to the church hall to accommodate the church’s future growth and better serve the needs of the existing congregation.

The Spring service is to introduce a contemporary service on the 5th Sunday – a short, themed service of Morning Prayer organised by the worship committee. In the week prior to the service a singing practice is held to learn songs not usually sung in the congregation and this provides another fellowship get-together. It has been well-received by the members this year and we hope it will continue into the future.

Anyone wishing to contribute to the Building Fund may send donations to the Church Warden, Grant Atkins, 39 Sunhaven Drive, Port Sorell, 7307.
