Anglicare's Mental Health Services Sorell Personal Helpers and Mentors team
Helping to remove the stigma
Anyone can experience mental illness. Such an illness can happen at any age. Thankfully, gone are the days when people with mental illness would be hidden.
People with mental illness live normal lives.
They may experience times when they are unwell and afterwards they have a period of recovery. It’s likely that you already know someone with a mental illness.
Anglicare offers a range of services for people with mental illness. One of our services is the Personal Helpers and Mentors program (PHaMS) which operates in the Sorell and Tasman Peninsula region, and the Brighton and Lower Midlands region.
PHaMs supports people with mental illness to manage daily routines and access other services. The PHaMs team go to the communities and homes of the people they help to work with them to achieve their goals.
While the PhaMS Service based at Brighton is new, in October our Sorell service is celebrating the first anniversary of its opening. This service has been a huge step in providing more holistic care where previously there had been a gap in what was provided for people in the Sorell area living with mental illness.
All Anglicare’s Mental Health Services including the Sorell Personal Helpers and Mentors team are gearing up for Mental Health Week beginning on 2 October 2009, with lots of community events being planned which aim to remove the stigma of mental illness.
