The road to Damascus

Former CMS Tasmania General Secretary Pam Lake and her husband Andrew are about to become the branch’s only full-connection missionaries! They will be serving at All Saints international church in Damascus from December. Here is their latest news…

Living out of a suitcase as we travel around sharing with congregations, small groups and individuals about mission and about the Church in Syria can be tiring and unsettling but also humbling and encouraging.

Our hosts, like Helen on Flinders Island and Ian and Anne in Launceston, have opened their homes to us and taken very good care of us.

After a bumpy ride in a small plane from Flinders, Jill and Rosemary from Evandale were there at Launceston airport simply to greet us. We caught up with a lot more CMS members on Saturday 26 September at the Cathedral, when CMS Tasmania had its annual celebration and AGM.

We have been reading and researching about Arab Muslims because they are very culturally different from Muslims in Indonesia, where we served previously with CMS. Although we’ll mainly be ministering to English-speaking expatriates, we are hoping for opportunities to get to know local Muslims as well.

It is worth remembering that Muslims have a very high regard for the prophet Isa (Jesus) but are led to believe that the Christian Scriptures are in error when they state that Jesus is God’s Son and that he died on the cross.

Please keep praying for Muslims everywhere to investigate the Scriptures for themselves and learn the truth.
