Joy in the outback
St Barnabas’ Church at Julia Creek (R.) may look lonesome but is a lovingly cared for church in a remote part of North Queensland.
The problems of North Queensland reach the newspapers of southern Australia but the problems the Diocese of North Queensland faces are less advertised.
This is a difficult area for ministry but the joy and faith of the people are not diminished by the hardships of remoteness, climatic extremes, and social problems.
The Diocese has been suffering financial hardship for many years but is gradually getting on top of the problems. The Revd Ian McAlister, the Ministry Development Officer, is doing a fine job with ministry formation of laity and clergy; and the Bishop is forever encouraging and visionary.
The Outback Fund (National Home Mission Fund) gives financial support to the Diocese of North Queensland. If you would like to give your support to this remote part of the Anglican Church please send your donation to The Anglican Outback Fund, c/- The Anglican Centre, 209 Flinders Lane, MELBOURNE VIC 3000.
